The New Age of AI Governance

In a world increasingly shaped by machine intelligence, Europe has stepped forward with a framework to hold it accountable. In July 2025, the European Union released the “General-Purpose AI Code of Practice” – a bold, voluntary blueprint designed to govern the most advanced and adaptable AI systems in use today. Rather than introducing new legislation, the EU crafted this code as a companion to its landmark AI Act, offering practical guidance for how general-purpose models should be built, documented and deployed. These models -capable of writing, coding, reasoning and adapting across tasks – are no longer science fiction. They’re infrastructure. And now, they’re being asked to answer to something beyond engineering: accountability.
