Google launches on-device AI scam detection to shield Indian users from digital fraud
Google has rolled out real-time scam detection technology that alerts users to potential phone fraud without storing call data, part of a sweeping AI safety initiative targeting protections for children, seniors, and teenagers across India’s rapidly digitizing economy.
The feature, powered by Gemini Nano AI and launching on Pixel phones, analyzes conversations entirely on-device and flags suspicious calls from unknown numbers. A companion screen-sharing alert warns users when they open payment apps like Google Pay, Paytm, or Navi during calls with unfamiliar contacts, enabling them to end both the call and screen-share with a single tap.
