OpenAI launches Images 2.6 in ChatGPT, Codex and API; adds GIF creation feature

OpenAI has introduced Images 2.6 in ChatGPT, Codex and its API, bringing faster image generation, improved editing tools and the ability to create animated GIFs. The company said the new model generates images 50% faster than its previous version and offers greater control over visual details. The new GIF feature allows users to turn images into short, looping animations. Creators can use it to animate brand mascots, make social media reactions, create memes or develop animated storyboards before video production. Users can also turn simple sketches into animated characters.

OpenAI said people around the world now generate around 4 billion images every week across ChatGPT, Codex and the API. This translates to more than 500 million images each day on average.
