Pan-India monthly 5G data traffic surges 70% on-year in 2025: Nokia MBiT 2026 report

NEW DELHI: Pan-India monthly fifth-generation (5G) data traffic grew by 70% year-on-year to reach 12.9 exabytes (EB) in 2025, amid strong data consumption driven by the latest wireless networks being offered by Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), according to the latest Mobile Broadband Index (MBiT) 2026 report released by Finland’s Nokia on Tuesday.

5G data traffic now contributes nearly 47% of overall mobile broadband traffic in India, said Nokia, adding that average monthly mobile data consumption per user increased to over 31GB last year, representing an 18% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the past five years.
