Inclusivity in Digital KYC
In a landmark judgment delivered on April 30, 2025, the Supreme Court drew critical attention to the barriers faced by persons with disabilities in accessing essential services through Digital KYC (Know Your Customer) systems. The verdict, authored by Justice R Mahadevan, addressed the combined pleas of acid attack survivors and a petitioner with total blindness, who challenged the exclusionary nature of current digital KYC processes across banking, telecommunications, insurance and other regulated sectors.
