Economic Survey: India’s AI prowess must be built on smaller, sector-specific models

India must avoid chasing costly foundational artificial intelligence (AI) models and focus on smaller, task-specific models that can run on limited hardware and decentralized compute networks, according to the Economic Survey.

The country’s AI strategy should be grounded in its own economic realities, rather than attempting to replicate unsustainable models adopted in advanced economies, said the survey released in Parliament on Thursday.
