Nvidia has built technology to fight AI chip smuggling: Here’s how it will work

Nvidia has reportedly built a new location verification technology that can help the company locate its artificial intelligence (AI) chips and eventually prevent them from being smuggled into countries where their export is banned. According to a report by news agency Reuters, the company demonstrated the feature privately and will be an optional software agent that customers could install. The software utilises the confidential computing capabilities of its Graphics Processing Units (GPUs).

The report further said that an Nvidia official explained that the software is designed to allow customers to track a chip’s overall computing performance and uses time delay in communication with Nvidia servers to provide a rough sense of the chip’s location.
