FCC to China’s three biggest telecom companies: Prove that you are not a national security threat to America

China’s three biggest telecom companies are likely in for some rough time in America. The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has said that it may bar three major Chinese telecom companies from connecting to the US networks over efforts to prevent robocalls. According to an order issued by FCC, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom must address issues with their certifications in the agency’s Robocall Mitigation Database (RMD). RMD are databases in which carriers in the United States register and attest to their own efforts to reduce illegal robocalls and spam calls, allowing other carriers to reference them and block illegal traffic coming from specific carriers. The US agency has raised concerns about their presence in the database. If the FCC decides to remove these Chinese telecom companies, it would require all intermediate providers and voice service providers handling calls in the America to stop accepting all calls directly from the Chinese telecoms.
