Tata, Cyient, Applied Materials units emerge as L1 bidders for SCL fab upgrade

The Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali has identified Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing, Cyient Semiconductors and Applied Materials as the lowest bidders for the three key packages in the project to enhance the state-run chipmaker’s wafer fabrication plant, people in the know told ET.

The government hopes the ₹4,500 crore modernisation work at the facility will make SCL a major player in India’s semiconductor ecosystem. Electronics and information technology minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday that India’s sole public sector semiconductor facility will remain firmly under government control.
