Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman compares company’s biggest-ever datacenter with Empire State Building, Elon Musk replies with a question
Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman has highlighted the massive scale of the company’s new infrastructure by comparing the construction effort of its largest datacentre to the creation of the historic Empire State Building, prompting a pointed question from rival tech executive Elon Musk. Suleyman posted an online update regarding Microsoft’s Fairwater datacenter in Atlanta, emphasising the immense labour required.
“Already our Fairwater datacenter in Atlanta has taken over 15 million labor hours to build—even more once it’s fully finished,” Suleyman wrote. He then provided a striking historical comparison: “For comparison the Empire State building took 7 million!”
