GSMA bats for ARPU raise for telcos to up network spending

NEW DELHI: London-based telco group GSMA said that there is a need for India’s incumbent telecom carriers — Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) — to increase their average revenue per user or ARPU in order to increase the current level of network investments.

“The improvement of ARPU is needed to match the scale of investment that is required to serve customers, and there is still a lot to be done,” GSMA Director-General Vivek Badrinath told ETTelecom, adding that the revenue per user historically remains low in India.
