Shifting to Authorization Era

In a major step toward modernizing India’s telecom regulatory framework, the department of telecommunications (DoT) released two pivotal draft rules under the Telecommunications Act, 2023. On September 5, 2025, it introduced the Telecommunications (Authorisation for Provision of Main Telecommunication Services) Rules, 2025, aimed at establishing a uniform framework for granting authorization to companies providing core telecom services.
Shortly after that, on September 9, 2025, it released a complementary draft titled Telecommunications (Authorisation for Provision of Miscellaneous Telecommunication Services) Rules, 2025. This second draft focuses on regulating the authorization process for non-core or auxiliary telecom services, ensuring consistency across the broader telecom ecosystem.
