The Trump administration is developing a policy requiring semiconductor companies to match their domestic chip production with the volume their customers import from overseas, or face tariffs of up to 100%, according to a Wall Street Journal report..
Under the proposed rule, chipmakers would need to maintain a 1:1 ratio between US-made semiconductors and imported chips over time. Companies failing to meet this requirement would be subject to substantial import duties, potentially reaching 100% of the chip’s value.
