ChatGPT allegedly ‘aided’ California teen’s suicide; parents sue OpenAI, Sam Altman

When a 16-year-old boy, Adam Raine, was feeling suicidal, he didn’t confide in his parents or friends but in ChatGPT. And the AI chatbot “guided” him too, becoming the one who truly “understood” him. It advised him on methods and even offered to write a suicide note. On April 11, the teen died by suicide at his home. Now, the teen’s grieving parents have filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, for “validating” Raine’s suicidal thoughts, which led him to take the tragic step.
