Signal president Meredith Whittaker has mocked WhatsApp over ads, reaffirming commitment to privacy without “AI clutter”. In a post on X, she has publicly criticised WhatsApp’s decision to display ads from businesses through its Stories-like feature, a move following the earlier addition of a floating AI button to its main chat interface.
Taking to social media, Whittaker promised that Signal, the independent nonprofit messaging app, would remain free of “AI clutter, no surveillance ads — whatever the rest of the industry does.”
