DoT notifies draft rules

On May 16, 2025, the Ministry of Communications, issued a draft notification introducing the “Use of Low Power and Very Low Power Wireless Access System including Radio Local Area Network in the Lower 6 GHz Band (Exemption from Licensing Requirement) Rules, 2025.” This regulatory move marks a significant step towards liberalizing spectrum usage in the country, particularly in the unlicensed 5925–6425 MHz frequency band, commonly referred to as the “Lower 6 GHz band”. By exempting certain classes of wireless devices from licensing requirements, the government aims to catalyze innovation, enhance broadband penetration and support the development of next-generation wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi 6E and beyond.
