Tiktok gets a ‘warm’ message from Donald Trump: “You know I have …”
The US President-elect Donald Trump met with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew at Mar-a-Lago on Monday, a high-stakes encounter that could determine the fate of the popular social media app as it fights a potential nationwide ban.
Hours before their meeting, TikTok had filed an emergency application with the Supreme Court seeking to block a federal law that would force the app to be sold or face a nationwide ban on January 19. The app argues the law violates the First Amendment rights of its 170 million US users.
Trump, surprisingly supportive of the platform, told reporters he has “a warm spot in my heart for TikTok” and promised to “take a look at TikTok.” This stance represents a significant departure from his previous attempts to ban the app during his first presidential term.
