After causing almost existential crisis for Mathematicians; ChatGPT-maker OpenAI makes a $5 million donation to a foundation working on Maths

OpenAI has announced to donate $5 million to Simons Foundation, an organization dedicated to advancing the frontiers of math and basic science through grantmaking, in-house research and public engagement. The ChatGPT-maker shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) announcing the donation. The announcement comes days after Association for Human Mathematics (AHM) slammed the Sam Altman-led AI company accusing it of illegal plagiarism, copyright infringement, and trademark dilution. The criticism comes days after OpenAI released a broad range of mathematical results produced by one of its internal frontier models earlier this month.
