One of Apple’s most ambitious projects to date’ may materialise next year
Apple is reportedly ready to ditch Qualcomm and use its own custom-designed cellular modems in iPhones starting next year. The ambitious project, years in the making, will see the first “Sinope” modem appear in the new iPhone SE next year, a report has said.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, “the 2025 modem is just the start of Apple’s ambitions”.
“We’ll soon see the fruit of one of Apple’s most ambitious projects to date: a cellular modem code-named Sinope. The in-house component is coming to the new iPhone SE when that product launches in the spring. And it will appear in a slimmer iPhone and some low-end iPads later in the year,” he said in his weekly newsletter.
