Bengaluru cybercrime complaint reveals links to 43 cases in 15 states; students being used to open mule bank accounts

The arrest of four people hailing from Rajasthan by the Bengaluru cyber police for an online job fraud has revealed links to as many as 43 cases in 15 states and a modus operandi of luring students to open mule bank accounts into which defrauded funds were initially transferred before being siphoned out through cryptocurrency.

The links to 43 fraud cases in 15 states emerged in the course of an investigation by the Bengaluru South East CEN police into a cybercrime registered on September 9 wherein a victim complained of being defrauded of Rs 12.43 lakh by online fraudsters who promised big payments for completion of online tasks carried out against fund deposits.
