Chinese national granted bail in Vivo China money laundering case; trial court’s duty to protect fundamental rights, says judge

Granting bail to a Chinese national allegedly involved in a Rs 20,000 crore money laundering case linked to Vivo China, a Delhi court on Monday held that it is the duty of trial courts to protect the fundamental rights of an individual.

Guangwen Kuang, the Chinese national who had been in jail for 13 months, argued that no purpose would be served by keeping him in custody as he had joined the investigation as and when required by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which is investigating the case.
