Union Budget 2024-25: Telecom industry bats for tax reforms, RoW rules implementation, wants clarity on Telecom Act

NEW DELHI: The telecom industry, from the upcoming union budget 2024-25, has sought tax reforms, timely implementation of the amended Right of Way (RoW) rules, clarity on definitions under the new Telecommunications Act, 2023, and others, to improve the financial strength of the sector and enable it to expand networks, particularly 5G, and enhance connectivity in rural areas.

“We call for the extension of Input Tax Credit for telecom towers under the GST regime. This critical change would significantly reduce costs for infrastructure providers and ultimately benefit consumers,” T.R. Dua, Director-General of the Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA) said in a statement Monday.
