Maharashtra Phone Tapping
On August 25, 2020, a top-ranking police officer of the Maharshtra government heading the State Intelligence Department submitted a ‘top secret’ report to SK Jaiswal, the then Director General of Police of Maharashtra recommending immediate action. The report had telephonic conversations recording of certain ‘brokers’ who used to manage the postings of senior police officers in the state and their nexus with the powerful people in the government. Rashmi Shukla, commissioner of SID, who signed the report, also stated in the report that confidentiality be maintained as the disclosure would erode integrity of the political establishment.
