IS-Wireless seeks to deploy Open RAN-based 5G network in Poland

IS-Wireless, a Poland-based company that provides software-defined 4G and 5G networks, said it will deploy 5G network based on the Open-Radio Access Network (Open RAN) technology in the country from the second half of 2021.

The company said it seeks to implement the Polish solution across the world with a strategic aim to gain as much as 5% of the global Open RAN market by 2025–achieving a sales figure of $160 million per year.

It should be noted that Open RAN as technology enables companies to source hardware and software from different vendors for building their networks, thereby promoting an open interoperable network market.

The company estimates that the global income from Open RAN solutions’ sales over the coming six years will grow at a double-digit rate.

As early as 2024, the global Open RAN market may be worth $3.2 billion and amount for nearly 10% of the whole 4G and 5G market, it added.

“Open RAN most valuable quality is the innovative software, which may be based in e.g., cloud solutions. Building 5G network is this model is not only safer but also cheaper, compared to methods used in past network generations,” said IS-Wireless expert Aleksandra Checko-Jelonek.

“In Germany in particular, the government has provided over 2 billion euro for building Open RAN in the scope of their development plan. This trend will keep on growing,” Checko-Jelonek added.

The company said it aspires to become a global brand and compete against telecommunications giants such as Ericsson and Nokia.

“Until now, the telco market remained closed for enterprises such as our company. A select few of the largest providers were the only significant parties. Today we have an opportunity to change that,” said Slawomir Pietrzyk, President of IS-Wireless.

The company employs over 50 engineers both from Poland and abroad, including a team of five in the company’s office in the Philippines.

“Nearly twenty interested entities are currently on our list for technology implementations,” added Pietrzyk and said the company seeks to foray into markets like the European Union, the United States, and Asia.
