Clicked on ad, lost Rs 10. 9 lakh; bogus banking service offer traps Gariahat senior

A 64-year-old Gariahat resident who clicked on a social media advertisement offering banking assistance to senior citizens allegedly lost ₹10.9 lakh to fraudsters.

Partha Ganguly, a resident of Ballygunge Gardens and a retired executive of a private firm, came across the advertisement on Facebook in July.

“The complainant stated that he came across an advertisement on Facebook offering services to senior citizens purportedly on behalf of a nationalised bank. Thereafter, an unknown person contacted him and, after obtaining his mobile number, instructed him to follow his directions.
