Apple sues OpenAI for ‘theft’ over AI device plans and alleged trade secrets misuse
Apple has sued OpenAI, alleging its device ambitions were built on stolen ground. In a lawsuit filed in the Northern District of California, the iPhone maker alleges that OpenAI, its chief hardware officer Tang Tan — a 24-year Apple veteran — and former Apple engineer Chang Liu have been engaged in a pattern of stealing confidential designs, technical files and supplier data.
Apple has also named io Products, the hardware startup OpenAI acquired last year, as a co-defendant. It’s said that over 400 former Apple staffers now work at OpenAI.
