Electronics makers face component shortages as Gulf shipping crisis hits production

Kolkata: Consumer electronics and appliance makers say they are grappling with shortages of key components such as printed circuit boards, mobile phone batteries, microprocessors and sub-components, while longer supply lead times caused by vessel shortages amid the Gulf conflict have begun disrupting production schedules.

Appliance maker Haier said output in the last two weeks has been 20% below what had been planned due to delays in sub-component supplies, with inventory cover shrinking to 10 days from the usual 25.
