Ericsson Mobility Report

India’s 5G adoption is headed for a major milestone, with subscriptions expected to cross 1.1 billion by the end of 2031, according to Ericsson’s latest Mobility Report. The report paints a picture of a market that is moving beyond rollout and into a deeper phase of growth, where coverage, device affordability, fixed wireless access and new network capabilities are all shaping how 5G will be used over the rest of the decade.
The scale of that shift is already visible. India had 430 million 5G subscriptions at the end of 2025, which accounted for 35 pc of total mobile subscriptions. At the same time, 4G remained the biggest technology base with a 46 pc share, but that dominance is expected to fade steadily as users continue migrating to 5G.
