Texas moves to purge H-1B from taxpayer-funded roles: Governor probes visa use in schools, universities
After Florida, another US state appears to be preparing to tighten its rules regarding the H-1B visa. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has said his administration is looking closely at the use of H-1B visas in public schools, universities, and other institutions funded by Texas taxpayers. He questioned whether foreign workers are being hired for jobs that Texans could easily do themselves.
Speaking on The Mark Davis Show on Monday, Abbott said his office has already started gathering information from public agencies across the state. The goal, he said, is to find out “the extent to which Texas taxpayer dollars are being used to pay for any of these people,” referring to H-1B visa holders working in state-run institutions.
