Google CEO Sundar Pichai on AI in Gmail: ‘We launched Gmail on April Fool’s Day in 2004. 20+ years later…’

Google has announced that it is supercharging Gmail with AI by infusing Gemini 3 AI models to bring a significant overhaul of Gmail. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a post on X that the company is now “bringing Gmail into the Gemini era”. The tech giant aims to transform the service from a standard mail platform into a “proactive inbox assistant”, the an update, which is now rolling out to some users in US, introduces features designed to synthesise long conversations, draft personalised responses and prioritise critical tasks automatically.
