South Korea’s Coupang to pay $1 billion to users affected by hacking: Here are the details

South Korean e-commerce company Coupang has announced a compensation package for users affected by a recent data breach. According to a report by the news agency Reuters, the company, which is also known as the ‘Amazon of Korea’ due to its significant market share in the country, has confirmed a 1.69 trillion won ($1.18 billion) compensation to holders of 33.7 million accounts that were affected by a massive data leak that has drawn backlash from users and lawmakers. Coupang has also confirmed to Reuters that users will receive 50,000 won vouchers for its various services.

The compensation announcement comes a day after Coupang founder Kim Bom issued his first public apology for the data breach.
