Mark Zuckerberg plans to take on Google’s Nano Banan Pro with Meta’s Mango AI model
Meta is developing “Mango,” a new image and video AI model designed to counter Google’s wildly successful Nano Banana generator, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg pushes an aggressive strategy to reclaim ground lost in the visual AI race, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The model surfaced during an internal Q&A featuring Meta’s Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang and Chief Product Officer Chris Cox, with sources telling WSJ that Mango targets a first-half 2026 launch. The timing isn’t coincidental—Google’s Nano Banana has become a cultural phenomenon that transformed Gemini into the number one app on Apple’s App Store, dethroning ChatGPT after a three-year reign.
