Russia’s state internet regulator Roskomnadzor announced that it has blocked Snapchat and imposed restrictions on Apple’s FaceTime video calling service, accusing both platforms of facilitating terrorist activities and criminal operations within the country.

The watchdog claimed the messaging app was being used “to organize and conduct terrorist activities in the country, recruit perpetrators, and commit fraud and other crimes against our citizens,” according to state media reports. While the announcement came this week, Roskomnadzor said it had already made Snapchat unavailable in Russia since October 10.
