TRAI blacklists more than 21 lakh numbers sending fraud messages

NEW DELHI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday said it has disconnected and blacklisted more than 21 lakh mobile numbers and around 1 lakh entities involved in sending spam and fraud messages.

The telecom regulator, in an official statement, advised citizens to report spam calls and SMS through the TRAI DND mobile application, as it will allow TRAI and telecom operators to trace, verify and permanently disconnect offending mobile numbers.

By contrast, blocking numbers on personal devices does not stop spam at the source.
