Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea executives say Indian telecom industry bullish on AI

NEW DELHI: India’s top telecom incumbents Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) said they are upbeat about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for various functions, including radio optimisation and spam and scam filtering.

The top executives at the telcos added that AI systems today utilise a “predictive” approach to anticipate and prevent any anomalies or faults, moving away from the “reactive” method earlier employed. They, however, cautioned that barriers to using AI in telecoms include legacy equipment, a lack of clarity on security, and regulations.
