Satcom won’t replace cellular networks: T-Mobile executive

NEW DELHI: Satellite-based broadband services would not be able to replace terrestrial networks due to indoor coverage challenges, a top T-Mobile executive said.

“It (satcom) cannot replace the cellular network, because lots of users are indoors. It’s always going to be complimentary,” Ankur Kapoor, Chief Network Officer, T-Mobile told ETTelecom.

Kapoor said that users won’t be able to use satellite coverage as it doesn’t get indoors, but have a use case in rural and remote locations since it’s not profitable to deploy wireless networks in those areas.
