BSNL expands 4G network in Bengal, plans 5G in Kol in ’26

Kolkata: BSNL commissioned 3,744 4G sites in Bengal, including Kolkata, with an investment of Rs 1,166 crore since last Aug, the state PSU said on Friday, a day before the inauguration of its indigenously built 97,500 mobile 4G towers across India by PM Narendra Modi.

The company, which posted back-to-back quarterly profits after 17 years, plans to add another 800 4G sites in the state over the next 6-8 months, said Hawa Singh Jakhar, chief general manager, West Bengal Telecom Circle, BSNL. “We are providing 4G services in 23 districts of Bengal with 2,148 4G sites. But we need more sites to increase our 4G coverage,” he said.
