India hosts 3GPP RAN meetings in Bengaluru on 6G standardisation

NEW DELHI: The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) on Monday inaugurated the Radio Access Networks (RAN) working group meetings – RAN1 through RAN5 – in Bengaluru to discuss 6G standardisation and related aspects under the Release 20.

The meetings will continue till August 29, 2025, and will also finalise the Release 19 specifications, crucial for driving momentum in the 5G Advanced ecosystem.

“The Department of Telecommunications has extended full institutional and financial support for hosting the event, highlighting the government of India’s commitment to shaping the future of global communications technology,” the Ministry of Communications said in a statement Tuesday.
