DD Free Dish gains ground in TV distribution market amid debate over its actual reach

As Prasar Bharati’s free direct-to-home (DTH) service DD Free Dish consolidates its lead as India’s single largest TV distribution platform, the industry remains divided over its real reach.

Official data shows its footprint at 49 million homes in 2024, up from 33 million in 2018. Some agencies, however, believe the number is much higher. Delhi-based Chrome DM estimates it has already crossed 60 million homes, ahead of the combined base of all pay DTH operators at around 57 million.
