Google has announced that it is leveraging its artificial intelligence (AI) technology to help stabilise and modernise power grids. The company announced new agreements with Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to integrate “demand response” capabilities into its data centres, a strategy aimed at flexibly managing energy consumption.
Google says that demand response allows large energy users, such as data centres, to reduce or shift their power usage during peak hours or when the grid is under stress.
