Jio, Airtel’s rise in active user base offsets Vodafone Idea’s decline in May 2025: Ind-Ra

NEW DELHI: The growth in the visitor location register (VLR) subscribers, or active users, of Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel more than offset the decline of Vodafone Idea’s (Vi) active users in May 2025, according to India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra).

‘The overall growth in the industry-wide active subscriber base was largely supported by the growth in active subscribers for Reliance Jio (5.7% year-on-year) and Bharti Airtel (0.7% year-on-year), more than offsetting the decline in Vodafone Idea’s active subscribers,’ the ratings agency said in a report on Tuesday, analysing the industry data collated by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for May 2025.
