The UK government has empowered the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) with new enforcement powers under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCCA). This legislation allows the CMA to directly determine whether consumer protection laws have been breached and to act proportionately without resorting to lengthy court proceedings. The CMA can now issue fines, secure redress for consumers and take swift action against non-compliant businesses.
