Revamping fixed-line numbering plan

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has proposed a series of recommendations for revising the National Numbering Plan to improve the accessibility and reliability of telecommunication services. These recommendations include the adoption of a 10-digit numbering system for landline phones, aligning them with mobile numbers for better utilization of available numbers.

Additionally, all fixed-line to fixed-line calls will now require dialling a ‘0’ prefix even while making local calls. Trai also suggests implementing a License Service Area (LSA)-based 10-digit closed numbering scheme for fixed-line services
