Trai has recommended the auction of spectrum in the 37-37.5 GHz and 37.5-40 GHz frequency ranges. It has also recommended not to auction any spectrum in 42.5-43.5 GHz frequency range due to inadequate device eco-system.

Rejecting the telecom operators’ request for a 5-6 year interest-free payment gap or moratorium on the spectrum bought in the upcoming auctions, the regulator kept the status quo on the existing payment terms – upfront payment option and payment in 20 equal annual instalments.

The regulator has recommended that in addition to the access service providers, internet and machine-to-machine service providers should also be permitted to participate in the auction.
