National Supercomputing Mission

India has deployed a total of 36 supercomputers as of November 2024, boasting a combined compute capacity of 32 petaflops, according to the government’s announcement. These cutting-edge supercomputers have been distributed across various academic institutions, research organizations and R&D labs, including prominent entities like IISc, IITs, C-DAC, as well as institutions from Tier-II and Tier-III cities under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).

Under the NSM, an ecosystem has been established to achieve self-reliance in supercomputing. This includes the design, development and manufacturing of supercomputers, as well as the creation of a complete system software stack and associated applications.
