WhatsApp violated law

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 213 crore on Meta Platforms Inc, formerly known as Facebook, for its anti-competitive practices related to the 2021 WhatsApp Privacy Policy Update. CCI has also laid down several restrictions to ensure that Meta complies with fair competition principles.

CCI has directed Meta and WhatsApp to implement the followings:

WhatsApp will not share user data collected on its platform with other Meta Companies or Meta Company Products for advertising purposes, for a period of 5 years from the date of receipt of this order. After expiry of the said period
