Indian Law Tells Social Media to Identify Miscreants

After about 26 months of open consultations with all the stakeholders, on February 25, 2021, the centre notified Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. WhatsApp or its parent Facebook did not suggest anything in those many months. The centre gave all the companies three months’ time to comply with the new rules. Even then they did not say anything.
