{"id":975158,"date":"2025-11-19T17:32:32","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T12:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/telecomlive.in\/web\/?p=975158"},"modified":"2025-11-20T08:05:25","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T02:35:25","slug":"india-seeks-itu-council-re-election-for-term-2027-30-chandra-sekhar-pemmasani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/telecomlive.in\/web\/2025\/11\/19\/india-seeks-itu-council-re-election-for-term-2027-30-chandra-sekhar-pemmasani\/","title":{"rendered":"India seeks ITU Council re-election for term 2027-30: Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said that India is seeking re-election to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council for the term 2027-30. <\/p>\n<p>India will continue to amplify the priorities of developing nations, champion practical solutions such as technology transfer and capacity-building, and foster consensus across regions, Pemmasani said on Tuesday at the ITU-World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25), being organised by the government of Baku, from November 17 to November 25.<\/p>\n<p>The ITU Council members for the 2023-26 term comprise 48 member states, distributed across five regions \u2013 Americas (9), Western Europe (8), Eastern Europe and Northern Asia (5), Africa (13), and Asia and Australasia (13). <\/p>\n<p>India is a member of Region E (Asia and Australasia). <\/p>\n<p>He also announced India\u2019s nomination for the Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau, reaffirming the nation\u2019s resolve to champion innovation-led, future-ready spectrum governance globally, according to an official statement. <\/p>\n<p>Mario Maniewicz began his second term in the top role at the Radiocommunication Bureau of the United Nations\u2019 (UN) telecom agency on January 1, 2023. <\/p>\n<p>He first took office in January 2019, following his election at ITU&#8217;s 2018 Plenipotentiary Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and was re-elected at the 2022 Plenipotentiary Conference in Bucharest, Romania. <\/p>\n<p>Pemmasani further said that Indian innovations in digital identity, payments, and governance are supporting countries across Africa, Asia, and the Pacific, driven not by commercial interests but by the belief that digital capabilities can and should be shared. <\/p>\n<p>Through its Center of Excellence, India has trained thousands of professionals in spectrum management, cybersecurity, and digital governance, according to him. <\/p>\n<p>Pemmasani said that the nation has consistently advocated for equitable spectrum allocation, affordable satellite broadband, and technology transfer that empowers developing nations.<\/p>\n<p>He concluded that India\u2019s \u201crequest for support\u201d is driven by consistent action, transparent engagement, and solidarity with nations undergoing digital transformation. \u201cIndia remains committed to working with all ITU member states to ensure that the benefits of connectivity reach every citizen worldwide,\u201d Pemmasani said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said that India is seeking re-election to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council for the term 2027-30.
