{"id":956936,"date":"2025-08-22T17:26:36","date_gmt":"2025-08-22T11:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/telecomlive.in\/web\/?p=956936"},"modified":"2025-08-23T08:43:49","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T03:13:49","slug":"centre-approves-%e2%82%b96982-crore-for-bsnl-capex-in-2025-chandra-sekhar-pemmasani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/telecomlive.in\/web\/2025\/08\/22\/centre-approves-%e2%82%b96982-crore-for-bsnl-capex-in-2025-chandra-sekhar-pemmasani\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre approves \u20b96,982 crore for BSNL capex in 2025: Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Central government has approved \u20b96,982 crore as an additional capital expenditure (Capex) for state-controlled telecom carrier Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in 2025, the Parliament was informed on Thursday. <\/p>\n<p>This is in addition to the support of \u20b93.22 lakh crore provided to BSNL in various tranches, including a \u20b969,000 crore revival package in 2019, followed by \u20b91.64 lakh crore in 2022, and allotment of 4G and 5G spectrum worth \u20b989,000 crore in BSNL, Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In 2025, an additional amount of \u20b96,982 crore has been approved as additional Capex support for the rollout of 4G network by BSNL across the country,&#8221; Pemmasani said in a written reply. <\/p>\n<p>As of July 31, BSNL has installed a total of 96,300 sites for 4G services, and 91,281 sites are on-air.<\/p>\n<p>A Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)-led consortium that comprises the homegrown gear maker Tejas Networks and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) is currently deploying commercial 4G network for the telecom PSU across 1 lakh sites. <\/p>\n<p>Pemmasani said BSNL has started earning profits from FY21 as a result of various revival packages. &#8220;BSNL has earned net profit of \u20b9262 crore and \u20b9280 crore in quarters 3 and 4 of Financial Year 2024-25, respectively,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>BSNL&#8217;s first-quarter (Q1FY26) net loss narrowed to nearly \u20b91,049 crore from \u20b91,542 crore a year earlier. However, the company swung into a loss from the previous two quarters. <\/p>\n<p>The central government has a nearly \u20b947,000 crore capex plan in place for BSNL, Union Minister of Communications and DoNER Jyotiraditya Scindia told ETTelecom recently, adding that the telco had done its highest-ever capex of \u20b925,000 crore during the last year. \u201cAll three business verticals \u2014 enterprise business, consumer mobility and consumer fixed access\u2014 are doing well,\u201d Scindia had said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest annual report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), BSNL\u2019s subscriber base increased from 94.75 million in FY24 to 98.74 million in FY25, growing at 4% year-on-year.
