Citing Apple\u2019s plans to source and produce most iPhones sold in the US from India, Scindia said investing in the country today is not just about goodwill, but a sound economic decision for every original equipment manufacturer (OEM).<\/p>\n<p>Scindia was speaking at the Bharat Telecom event on Tuesday, where he emphasised that India\u2019s policy environment and expanding manufacturing ecosystem are making it an increasingly attractive destination for global tech firms. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cApple has decided to source and produce all its mobile phones in India in the years to come,\u201d news agency PTI quoted Scindia as saying. \u201cWhen you invest in India, you are choosing affordability, reliability and originality,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n<p>Apple CEO confirms iPhone shift to India <\/p>\n<p>Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed the production shift during the company\u2019s recent earnings call. He said that a majority of iPhones sold in the US during the June quarter would be sourced from India. China will continue to manufacture most devices for other global markets amid uncertainty over tax tariffs. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the June quarter, we expect a majority of the iPhones sold in the US to have India as their country of origin,\u201d Cook said. He also noted that nearly all iPads, Macs, Apple Watches and AirPods for the US market will be sourced from Vietnam. <\/p>\n<p>Apple expects recently announced US tariff hikes to add approximately $900 million to its operating costs. <\/p>\n<p>Telecom sector sees sharp growth: Scindia <\/p>\n<p>Scindia highlighted India\u2019s rapid telecom sector growth, attributing it to the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestment of \u20b94,000 crore \u2014 half a billion dollars \u2014 has resulted in sales of \u20b980,000 crore, \u20b916,000 crore in exports and 25,000 jobs being created,\u201d he said, noting the sector\u2019s multifold expansion. <\/p>\n<p>15% of global iPhones now made in India <\/p>\n<p>Minister of State for Telecommunications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said India has transformed from being a major importer in 2014 to a leading mobile phone manufacturer and exporter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2014, India was producing only six million mobile phones and importing 210 million. Today, we produce 330 million mobile phones annually, with exports of 50 million units,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Pemmasani added that 15 per cent of global iPhone output now comes from India \u2014 a significant realignment in Apple\u2019s supply chain.
